How hard are they to keep?

They’re pretty easy to keep, making them a great choice for both beginners and seasoned aquarists. Just make sure to provide a clean tank with the right conditions, and they’ll thrive.

What is its maximum size?

These gouramis stay relatively small, reaching about 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm) in length. Perfect for a smaller community tank or as a colourful centrepiece in a larger setup.

Where are they from?

Neon Blue Dwarf Gouramis originate from South Asia, particularly in India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. They’re used to slow-moving waters like rivers, streams, and rice paddies.

How many can I keep?

You can keep a pair or a small group, but make sure your tank is big enough. For a pair, a 10-gallon tank is the minimum, but bigger is always better. If you’re keeping a group, aim for at least a 20-gallon tank to give them plenty of space to swim and establish territories.

How compatible are they with other fish?

These gourami’s are generally peaceful and do well in community tanks with other non-aggressive fish. Ideal tankmates include tetras, rasboras, and small catfish. Avoid larger, aggressive fish that might nip at their fins or bully them.

What are the ideal water conditions?

Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami’s prefer a temperature range of 71-82°F (22-28°C) and a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5. They like soft to moderately hard water. Keep the tank well-filtered and perform regular water changes to maintain water quality. The neon Blue Gourami’s that are for sale have all been climatized to our water conditions.

How do you tell the difference between male and female?

Males are more brightly coloured, with a more intense blue hue and often red or orange accents. Females tend to be paler and have more rounded bodies. During breeding, males become even more vibrant to attract a mate.

Fun Fact:

Here’s a fun little nugget – Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami’s are bubble nest builders. The males blow bubbles at the water’s surface to create a nest for their eggs. It’s quite the spectacle to watch them carefully construct and guard their nest. The Neon Blue Dwarf Gourami is a dazzling addition to any aquarium. Their bright colours and peaceful nature make them a favourite among fish keepers.
