Albino Neon Tetra

Latin Name: Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi (Albino form)
Other Names: White Neon Tetra

Origin: South America. The original species comes from river systems in Brazil, although most fish available today are captive bred.

Adult Size: Around 3–4 cm (1–1.5 inches).

Temperament:
Very peaceful community fish that works well in planted aquariums.

Group Size:
Albino Neon Tetras are shoaling fish and should be kept in groups of at least 6–10. Larger groups create a much more natural display.

Tank Setup:
They thrive in planted aquariums with open swimming areas and some shaded spaces. Plants, driftwood, or floating plants help create a natural environment.

Water Conditions:
Typical care guidelines:

  • Temperature: 22–26°C

  • pH: 6.0–7.0 (slightly acidic to neutral)

  • Soft to moderate hardness

Fish at Friendly Fish Aquatics have already been acclimatised to local tap water in Harlow and Essex, so most hobbyists can keep them successfully without adjusting their water.

Tank Mates:
Albino Neon Tetras are excellent community fish and can live with many peaceful species including:

  • Other peaceful Tetras

  • Rasboras

  • Corydoras Catfish

  • Kuhli Loaches

  • Small Gouramis

Avoid large or aggressive fish that may see them as food.

Diet:
Omnivores that accept a wide range of foods including:

  • Quality flake foods

  • Frozen foods

  • Freeze-dried foods

  • Small live foods

Did You Know?
Albino Neon Tetras are actually a colour variant of the Black Neon Tetra, which makes them slightly hardier than classic Neon Tetras while still having that striking glowing stripe.

Friendly Fish Tip:
Albino Neon Tetras look their best in larger schools of 8–12 fish, where their glowing white stripe creates a beautiful shimmering effect as they swim together.
