How hard are they to keep?  White Widow Tetras are relatively easy to keep, making them suitable for beginner and experienced aquarists. They are hardy and adaptable fish.

What is its maximum size?  White Widow Tetras typically grow to a maximum size of around 2 inches (5 centimetres) in length.

Where are they from?  White Widow Tetras are native to South America, specifically from the Paraguay and Paraná river basins.

How many can I keep? White Widow Tetras are shoaling fish and should be kept in groups of at least 6 individuals to ensure their well-being. Larger groups will exhibit more natural behaviour and schooling dynamics.

How compatible are they with other fish?  White Widow Tetras are generally peaceful and compatible with a wide range of community fish. They can coexist with other small, peaceful species such as tetras, rasboras, and livebearers.

What are the ideal water conditions?  White Widow Tetras prefer slightly acidic to neutral water conditions. A temperature range of 73-82°F (23-28°C) and a pH level of 6.0-7.5 are suitable for their well-being. Provide a well-planted aquarium with open swimming spaces. The White Widow Tetra that are for sale have been climatized to our local water conditions.

How do you tell the difference between male and female? Males of the White Widow Tetra species are generally smaller and more colourful, especially when observing the dorsal and anal fins. Females tend to have a larger and rounder body shape.

Fun Fact: White Widow Tetras get their name from the distinctive black colouring on their dorsal and anal fins, resembling the hourglass shape associated with black widow spiders. They are active swimmers and a striking addition to community aquariums, especially when kept in groups.
