Rhinogobius Duospilus (Hong Kong Goby)

Other Names: White Cheek Goby, Hong Kong Goby

How hard are they to keep?
Rhinogobius Duospilus are moderately easy to keep but require specific water conditions and a well-oxygenated tank. They do best in setups that mimic their natural habitat, with plenty of rocks and caves to explore.

What is its maximum size?
They grow to a maximum size of around 2 inches (5 cm), making them a great choice for smaller, species-only tanks.

Where are they from?
These gobies are native to fast-flowing streams and rivers in China and Hong Kong.

How many can I keep?
They can be kept in small groups, but males can be territorial. A group with one male and multiple females is ideal, or you can keep a single specimen in a peaceful community tank.

How compatible are they with other fish?
Rhinogobius Duospilus are generally peaceful but should not be kept with overly aggressive or fast-swimming fish. They do best with small, non-aggressive tank mates that share similar water conditions.

What are the ideal water conditions?
These gobies prefer cooler temperatures between 64-75°F (18-24°C) with a pH of 6.5-7.5. They thrive in well-oxygenated, fast-moving water with a sandy or rocky substrate. The Rhinogobius Duospilus at Friendly Fish have been climatized to our local water conditions.

How do you tell the difference between male and female?
Males are typically more colourful and have larger dorsal fins, while females tend to be smaller and less vibrant.

Fun Fact:
Rhinogobius Duospilus are fascinating to watch as they perch on rocks and use their pelvic fins to “walk” along the substrate, much like tiny aquatic geckos!

These can be found in tank Number: 20
