Where are they from? Red Phantom Tetras are native to the rivers and tributaries of South America, particularly in the Orinoco and Negro basins.

How many can I keep? Red Phantom Tetras are shoaling fish and should be kept in groups of at least six individuals. Larger groups will provide a more natural and visually appealing display.

How compatible are they with other fish? Red Phantom Tetras are generally peaceful and can be kept with other peaceful community fish. However, they have long, delicate fins, so caution should be taken when selecting tank mates to avoid fin nipping species. Suitable tank mates include other peaceful tetras, danios, rasboras, and peaceful catfish.

What are the ideal water conditions? Red Phantom Tetras prefer slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH ranging from 6.0 to 7.5. The temperature should be maintained between 72°F to 82°F (22°C to 28°C). They prefer well-filtered water with soft to moderately hard water hardness. Providing live plants and some hiding spots in the aquarium will create a more natural environment for them. The Red Phantom Tetras that are for sale have been climatized to our local water conditions.

How do you tell the difference between Male and female? It can be quite challenging to visually differentiate between male and female Red Phantom Tetras. However, males tend to have a slimmer and more streamlined body shape compared to females. During breeding, males may develop a more intense red coloration.

Fun Fact: Red Phantom Tetras get their name from the striking red patch that resembles a “heart” shape on their upper body. This unique pattern adds to their beauty and makes them a sought-after species among aquarists.
