What is its maximum size? Black Molly fish can reach a maximum size of around 4 inches (10 centimetres) in length.

Where are they from? Black Molly fish are native to various regions in Central and South America, including Mexico and parts of Venezuela.

How many can I keep? Black Molly fish are social and thrive in groups. It is recommended to keep them in groups of at least three to four individuals, but they can also be kept in larger groups.

How compatible are they with other fish? Black Molly fish are generally peaceful and can be kept with a wide variety of other peaceful fish species, including other types of mollies, tetras, guppies, and peaceful bottom-dwellers. However, they may not be compatible with aggressive or fin-nipping species.

What are the ideal water conditions? Black Molly fish prefer slightly alkaline water with a pH ranging from 7.5 to 8.5. They also require a temperature between 70°F to 82°F (21°Cto 28°C) and clean, well-maintained water. They are adaptable to various water parameters but prefer moderate hardness. How do you tell the difference between male and female? Male Black Molly fish are typically smaller and more slender than females. Males also have a modified anal fin called a gonopodium, which is used for reproduction. The gonopodium is longer and narrower than the female’s anal fin. Additionally, males may display a more vibrant coloration and have a more pronounced dorsal fin.
